New York Wing is expecting to select 6 cadets to attend the Flight Academy for Power and 2 cadets for glider training. The cadets will be part of the NYW Encampment, as Flight "P".Powered Applicants - We are providing flight instruction leading to solo but are not guaranteeing a solo. We will also be providing a full ground school with signoff to take the Private Pilot written exam. We will be using 3 NYW C172 aircraft and we have 3 experienced CAP flight instructors to teach flight training and ground instruction. The cost will be $700 per cadet, but we expect to have scholarship funding available to reduce the cost for each cadet. The cost includes 10 hours of instruction in the C172, ground school materials, and pilot supplies. Cadets must be 16 years or older, but not 21. See "How to Apply" for additional requirements.
Glider Applicants We are providing flight instruction leading to pre-solo in the Blanik L23 glider. WE will also be providing a full ground school with signoff to take the Private Pilot written exam. The cost will be $350 per cadet but we expect to have scholarship fundting available to reduce the cost for each cadet. The cost includes 10 instructional flights in the glider, ground school materials, and pilot supplies. Cadets must be 14 years or older, but not 21. See "How to Apply" for additional requirements.
Cadet Staff - If you have already attended a flight academy or have soloed, and are interested in applying for one of the two cadet staff positions available, follow the normal staff application process for the 2008 New York Wing Encampment. Request the position of Flight Academy Staff.
Senior Staff - If you are a senior member interested in participating in the Flight Academy as a flight instructor or ground instructor, follow the normal staff application process for the New York Wing Encampment. Request the position of Flight Academy Staff.
