Application Process for NYWg Encampment


How to Apply - Cadets in Flight

In order to attend, you MUST:
    Be a current member of CAP (with current membership card)
    Rank of Cadet Airman (C/Amn) by 23 May (Curry Award)
    If 18 years or older, must have completed CPPT prior to encampment
 
2nd Timer Information: Preference is given to those cadets who have never attended an encampment before. If you have attended an encampment previously, you will automatically be placed on a wait list. If there are available slots one week prior to the encampment, we will offer slots in wait list order. All paperwork must be in order and you must be in the National Database as an active member.  
Submit one copy Application Form (NYWF31) to Encampment Registrar (ALL CADETS NEED PARENT OR GUARDIAN SIGNATURES)

Will receive an Acknowledgement Letter within two weeks of receiving your application. If you do not receive this letter, contact the Registrar.

Financial Aid for First Time Cadets

Pay Encampment Fee of $220 with Check or Credit Card (Make any checks out to "New York Wing Encampment")
A sibling discount will be applied reducing the amount to $200 for the 2nd cadet sibling and $180 for each additional cadet sibling. All money will be refunded if cancellation occurs prior to the deadline date.
After the deadline date, any withdrawal will be subject to a cancellation fee according to the schedule below:
  • 23 May - 30 Jun: $25 cancellation fee
  • 1 Jul - 12 Jul: $75 cancellation fee
  • After 12 Jul: $125 cancellation fee
(There is always a waiting list, so the sooner you let us know that you cannot attend, the more likely it is that someone else will have the opportunity to attend this year's encampment.)
If cancelling, you MUST contact the Encampment Registrar.
 
Deadline Date: Postmarked by 23 May
Final Acceptance Letters will be mailed by 15 June

How to Apply - Cadets on Staff

In order to attend as a Staff Member, you MUST:
    Be a current member of CAP (with current membership card)
    Rank of C/TSgt by the Staff Deadline (If applying for Group 1st Sgt - must be C/SMSgt by the Command Staff Deadline)
    If 18 years or older, must have completed CPPT prior to encampment
    Be able to participate in the two Staff Training Workshops
    If applying for Flight Academy Staff - must have soloed, or attended a flight academy
 
New Online Process (NYWgF96 not needed) Enter a staff application and essay on why you should be given the position(s) you have requested. Please enter if possible on-line ( Member Login) (Web Applications for general staff will be accepted up until May 2 (one week prior to the start of the Leadership Workshop) - Applications for C/CC, C/DCC, C/XO, 1st Sgt will be accepted until March 28.)

If you are unable to enter your application online, send a NYWgF96 with essay to the registrar indicating that you have not put it on the web and it will be done for you.

(If you cannot attend the first workshop, you must personally contact the Encampment Commander and the Encampment Registrar)

This form can be hand-carried to the workshop, but you MUST indicate whether you will be attending the workshop or not by updating the Workshop Information in the Member Only area of the website. Member Login

How to Apply - Senior Members

In order to attend, you MUST:
    Be a current member of CAP
    Completed Level I prior to the Encampment
    Completed CPPT prior to encampment
    Be able to participate in the pre-encampment workshops (See Workshop Information) (this is especially essential for those seniors desiring Mentor or TAC positions)
    If possible, Senior Members should possess a NYWg Driver's License (See the Senior Member Information Page on this website for information on how to get this license)

If you are interested in a Key Senior Staff Position, contact the Encampment Commander immediately. Since the individuals in these positions will be involved in a lot of pre-encampment duties, these positions are usually filled early in the process - Deputy Commander, XO, Commandant, Chief TAC,Training Mentor.

A NYWF17c is required for each workshop you want to attend. Make sure that the application arrives prior to the workshop for planning purposes. Mail the form to the Encampment Registrar (or contact her prior to the workshop and hand-carry the completed form.)

How to Apply - Flight Academy Student

In order to attend, you MUST:
    Be a current cadet member of CAP (with current membership card)
    Have previously attended a CAP encampment
    Rank of Chief Master Sergeant (C/CMsgt) by 23 May
    16 Years of age for Powered Flight or 14 Years of age for Glider Flight
    Class 3 Medical as of 10 June (for Powered Flight training only)
    If 18 years or older, must have completed CPPT prior to encampment
 
Submit one copy Application Form (NYWF31) to Encampment Registrar (ALL CADETS NEED PARENT OR GUARDIAN SIGNATURES)

Trouble Downloading?

Attached to the form should be a 1 page essay on "Why Flying is important to me". Include a list of any flight lessons (powered or glider) that you have completed. 
Do not send any money with your application fee. Money will be due after students have been selected. Maximum fee will be $800 for powered flight, and $490 for glider. (The hope is that scholarship funding will be available to further reduce this fee.)
If cancelling, you MUST contact the Encampment Registrar.
