Any visitors to the activity MUST be on the Military Support
Authorization. This document is prepared one week prior to the
start of the activity - contact the Flight Academy Director if you are not
on staff but intend to visit.

What to Expect?

Expect to be very busy. Expect to have fun. Expect to work hard.

New York Wing is expecting to select 4 cadets to attend the Flight Academy for Power and 2 cadets for glider training. The cadets will be part of the NYW Encampment, as Flight "P".

Powered Applicants - We are providing flight instruction leading to solo but are not guaranteeing a solo. We will also be providing a full ground school with signoff to take the Private Pilot written exam. We will be using 2 NYW corporate aircraft and we have 3 experienced CAP flight instructors to teach flight training and ground instruction. The cost will be $800 per cadet, but we expect to have scholarship funding available to reduce the cost for each cadet. The cost includes 10 hours of instruction in the C172, ground school materials, and pilot supplies. Cadets must be 16 years or older, but not 21. See "How to Apply" for additional requirements. Please do NOT send any money until after you have been selected.

Glider Applicants We are providing flight instruction leading to pre-solo in corporate glider. We will also be providing a full ground school with signoff to take the Private Pilot written exam. The cost will be $500 per cadet but we expect to have scholarship funding available to reduce the cost for each cadet. The cost includes 10 instructional flights in the glider, ground school materials, and pilot supplies. Cadets must be 14 years or older, but not 21. See "How to Apply" for additional requirements. Please do NOT send any money until after you have been selected.

Cadet Staff - If you have already attended a flight academy or have soloed, and are interested in applying for one of the two cadet staff positions available, follow the normal staff application process for the New York Wing Encampment. Request the position of Flight Academy Staff.

Senior Staff - If you are a senior member interested in participating in the Flight Academy as a flight instructor or ground instructor, follow the normal staff application process for the New York Wing Encampment. Request the position of Flight Academy Staff.
