Mentor Workshop
While this workshop was developed to train seniors to be able to be effective at encampments, the
training is equally useful in squadrons or on missions. If you work with cadets in any capacity,
this workshop is for you. The Air Force and our national Civil Air Patrol have recognized that
mentoring is a valuable tool in training, and is especially relevant with regard to our cadet
program. This workshop is continually evolving, so plan on attending even if you have participated
in the past. Lt.Col. Janet Schachner is a 'master teacher' and has created an outstanding workshop.
If you are curious about encampments, and are considering applying for staff -- this is the place to be.
This workshop is a requirement for all senior staff members. Returning staff members will
participate in a 'refresher' course and then assist in the Leadership Workshop which is held
at the same time. Individuals who have not participated in this workshop previously will
have an in-depth full-day course on mentoring. As a by-product you will be able to find
out more about the encampment and meet with the Encampment Commander. This will provide an opportunity
to determine where you can best serve the encampment.

Staff Skills Workshop Information
The Staff Skills Workshop is focused entirely on providing the necessary training for each staff person
to be able to successful do their assigned job at the encampment. All staff (both senior and cadet) are expected to attend. This
activity is key to the success of the encampment. Required Staff Training (a requirement by National Civil Air Patrol for anyone
participating on staff at an encampment) is held on Saturday.
It is expected that all staff will attend this workshop. This is really the 'beginning' of the encampment. Each department will begin
performing their jobs: ADM will be preparing the information mailing for accepted cadets, as well as registering the
participants of the workshop, PAO will be creating their first newsletter, flight staff will have the names and contact information of
the individuals in their flight and will be preparing to contact them, Mess OPS will be doing trial runs on dispensing food. Staff members who do not
attend this workshop are at a significant disadvantage for getting the most out of their staff assignment.
This activity is held at Stratton ANG. Participants arrive on Friday evening and leave on
Sunday morning. Seniors who are not mentors often just come for the day on Saturday for the Required Staff Training.
